Is Marts council giving up ?

Martsnews was informed - MARES has expressed their interest in becoming the 'premier' radio amateur club in Malaysia and hence approached to authority (MCMC) to consider awarding them this status. This would mean that MARTS will no longer be 'the' radio amateur society.

Is our council members just going to sit pretty and hand over MARTS 'premiership'? , or are they going to counsult MARES advisor, who happened to be MARTS senior official - council member? http://www.mares.org.my/Council.html

Yes, MARTS has its own inadequacy - to name a few
1) till date, no news of our 'elected' council members portfolio
2) No help extended to SWL whom will sit for the upcoming RAE exams
3) failure to upkeep repeaters throughout the Penisular

I hope that all council members would put MARTS 's interest above self , be loyal and 'do the right thing' and fight to keep MARTS 'premiership'.

So, it's not whether we want to do it, but when. Oh yes, the big caveat: If we put the house in better order. If...

Wah..if thats the case..MART will cease to represent all ham members fom Malaysia in the ITU !

What is the MARTS Council, (just recently elected) going to do about this ? Close an eye and let the MARTS that we all know for over 50 years go doen the drain ?

That the problem when the council is located in Penang, and do not bother to know about the things that are happening in the Central region..where there are a lot of the Ham Members !

Contact!

First off. We are in a situation today because enough people in the right places do not care enough. So..... the solution is simple. Not easy, but simple. Care what happens.

Second - I think no one should post anything here anonymously. Lets have some balls and stand behind what we say. No pun intended to the female persuasion. Talk, write, put your name to it. Apologise if you are in error. Simple. No one will die.

I think Penang is just to many hills away to receive a clear transmission. Too much QRN. For that matter, too much QRM. Not that I QSL, but I think the logistics of running, representing and LOBBYING for MARTS happens to be here in KL and in Putrajaya. If that is the case, we need adequate representation. If the council chooses to make its home in Penang, that is their right. But the Penangites must make its office in KL. Failing that..... they are not reporting for work. Sack em. How can you know what is going on with the pulse of of beauracracy and the regulatory bodies if you are on a totally different frequency?

Secondly, lets say they require our help to make this work. Maybe set up branch office. Maybe get some office boys with no authority. This means two things. One they are reaching out... for which we must help out. Or... they are incapable of doing the job themselves. For which we have no choice but to help them out. Seems the fate of Marts must lie in the hands of ordinary members. Sometimes I wonder if 9M2DS is going to be able to get anything done. Where is his help. I understand he is appointed to handle the KL matters. Excuse me, but isnt the whole darn council suppose to handle the KL/Putrajaya matters?

Three. Those who would choose to represent a constituent should not just publish their names. Also their contact numbers, their portfolios and their manifest. After all, this is a service organisation. At least have minimum service levels. I came to your meeting. I didnt see anyone turn down the offer of office. Now I don't see anyone taking up the obligations of office.

So far, to be fair, I have had contact with 9M2DS, 9M2LAW and of course 9M2CL, in decreasing frequency. All have pressing issues to work out but at first glance, I would have to say these three look like they are trying hard. I just wonder if they can rally the whole committee behind them. I also wonder if they can rally the whole radio community behind them. After all, the litmus test of the success of a council is how well and how completely they represent their constituents.

I for one, will choose to stand behind the council. But I hope I dont just look at a round table of sitting backsides.

Since we are talking about MARES. I went by to see 9M2DS in his office a few days ago. I may not agree with his politics. I may not agree with his values. But he grudgingly gets my respect. He has passion for what he does. And he goes out and does it...

Then he gets like minded people he would like to be with. His group has a common goal. They have a strategy. They have members who care. And... they can change with the times. Buang yang keruh and ambil yang jernih.

I ask you this....
If MARES is lobbying to be the premier amateur radio society in Malaysia.... would that be a bad thing?

Not that it can, in my eyes. In every country in the world, emergency services is in the commercial band. Emergency radio services are part of radio. One is the subset of the other... not the other way around. Unless the authorities choose to ignore common practice..... which is another story.

Hello members,
Greetings from 9m2rs.
Normally I do not respond to blogspot that allows anonymous comments. One must be responsible for whatever comments one make.On the issue of MARES approaching MCMC requesting them to recognise
MARES as a sole representative of amateurs in Malaysia is totally unfounded and a great lie. I do not know who the liars are but we do not require liars in our fraternity. If anyone have proof of this I will resign as MARES member immediately.MARES have their own vision ... to deal with emergencies.. nothing more than that.Let us not create animosity
with MARES.Why pick on MARES not ASTRA,NS radio club, Johor Club, Pahang Club or Perlis Club?.We should work together for mutual benefit.
I must admit that MARTS Council is a bit slow in doing things. However things are moving. The callbook and newsletter will be out soon.Membership campaign is going on.Matters regarding repeaters for the whole country is in the planning stage with Motorolla.
40m net is going on every Sunday
MARTS will be sending three reprentatives to a forum organised by MCMC on 2nd June 2005.The topics for discussion suggested by me on behalf of MARTS are af follows
1. Review the Regulations on Amateur Radio
2. Processing and renewal fees
3 RAE
4 Morse Code test
5 Grant from MCMC for the promotion of Amateur Radio.
6 Allocations of callsigns.
7 List of approved sets by MCMC
8 Simplification of Application form.
If anyone have more points I will be pleased to add to my list.
To members who think we are not doing anything please bear with us for a while. If you think you can contribute in whatever way you can pse dont hesitate to contact the council. After all we are all members of MARTS.The question of having MARTS HQ doest not arise. We can have it anywhere. With present day technology communications is at your finger tips.Someone propose for an office in KL.MARTS at the moment is not capable of paying rental, utilities and employ someone to man this office.
Our yearly income is too little for this arrangement.A few years ago MARTS council was in KL,there was no noticable advantage seen.
If fact it got worse. That is the time MARTS have a big split.
For information of new members,in
the eighties and nineties MARTS council have their council meeting over the air on 40m.
To all members ,if you have any queries abt MARTS pse call or email me, I shall try my best to repond. I have been a member since 1965. MARTS is a society which I much treasure. I have been the President, Vice President and council members for many terms.I am proud to say that I was one of those responsible for the introduction of B Class Licence and the abolition of tax for amateur radio equipments.Do you think I want to see MARTS go down to the drain ... no way.
So friends let us work together as
a team without personal agenda. There many members poking fire around for their own personal reasons. Let us all not fall into their traps.

Bersatu Teguh, Bercerai Roboh.

Dear 9m2RS - Rashid,
The blog mentioned that :-
"MARES has expressed their interest in becoming the 'premier' radio amateur club in Malaysia and hence approached to authority (MCMC) to consider awarding them this status. This would mean that MARTS will no longer be 'the' radio amateur society."

I do not think that MARES is asking MCMC to be the sole representative but to be consider as a 'premier' radio amateur society - If i read the blog correctly. Afterall you did mention (MARES have their own vision ... to deal with emergencies.. nothing more than that), i hope your are right. I hope that the 'anonymous' person can post somekind of correspondance proof to help clear the air.

Like you rightly say 9M2RS, "Bersatu Teguh, Bercerai Roboh."

Sorry, I think the blog deserves to be updated that the meeting is not happening as stated due to unavoidable circumstances. A new date has been proposed which perhaps Pak Rashid want to tell the rest...
